100 besten Frontmänner

Beitrag von Andreas Streng »

Folgendes erreichte uns von Fan-Club Mitglied Kerstin Böttcher. Vielen Dank!

The strutting Peacock. The monarch who could camp it up better than anyone. The man with a unique voice and who brought to life some of the greatest rock songs ever. Freddie Mercury was a star who would have been a giant in any era. He could croon, scream, whisper, emote. He used his voice the way great actors are trained to do - as an extension of his personality - and as an instrument. While his bandmates in Queen - Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - were (and still are) excellent musicans, Freddie gave their talents flesh and form. Whatever the setting, Freddie seemed bigger, brighter, bolder than everything and everyone else around. You could never take your eyes off him. Nor could you forget his amazing vocal repertoire. He was a great because he challenged the norms, pushed the boundaries and opened up people’s ears to new possibilities. Listen again to ’Bohemian Rhapodie’ (as opposed to just hearing it for the umpteenth time), and marvel at how Freddie Mercury so resolutely took operatic ispirations into his world and made a definitive, historic statement. This was a man who was not prepared to be restricted - as a singer, performer and also in his private life. He created such an indelible impression that he will continue to encourage aspiring talents for many years to come. He learned from the immortals - you can hear Sinatra, Elvis, Jagger, Mario Lanza, Al Jolson; you can see Liberace, Frankie Howerd, James Brown - yet such was his selfconfidence that Freddie took all of these disparate strands and wove them into the bright force we all came to know. Perhaps the greatest compliment he can be paid is that not only was Mercury held in awe by fans and peers, but he was also much loved.

Für jeden Frontmann gab es dann noch Bewertungskriterien:
für FM:
X-Factor: X X X X X
Voice: X X X X X
Image: X X X X X
Gimmick: Over-the-top flamboyance

Im Vergleich Klaus Meine (Scorpions, platz 87):
X-Faktor: X X X
Voice: X X X X
Image: X X X
Gimmick: Being German

Bon Scott hat genauso viele X, wie FM in allen Kategorien.
